In all, Kay Kyser lived a remarkable life, full of laughter, joy and good works.  In his entertainment career, he brought pleasure to millions.  Later, with his philanthropic work and his tireless service to the Christian Science movement, he helped people’s lives at a more tangible level.  His basic philosophy of good cheer and good deeds can be summed up nicely in the chorus of one of his hit songs, “Accentuate the Positive” (lyrics by Johnny Mercer, music written by Harold Arlen):

“You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between.

“You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene.”
